[bugfix] readd method impl to entity iterator

Martin Nolte requested to merge bugfix/provide-impl-of-entity-iterator into master

This method disappeard upon removal of the entity pointer. This patch adds the method again. Despite the fact that the experimental grid extensions flag is to be removed, it still uses the old semantics for compatibility.
