As I don't have ARPPACK myself, I cannot check / I don't have an issue. Do you want us merge this as it is? Do you want it to be in Dune 2.6 or is 2.7 ok with your?

Could you add a test case which shows the improvement?

There is a test case, namely multirhstest. But it only triggers when arpack is installed. There is nothing Linus could do to improve this situation (other than pestering @ansgar about infrastructure/issues0#48 (closed)).

If possible, I think we should merge it for 2.6 even without an independent confirmation. Worst case is it won't fix the issue, which would be the same as not merging it.

Just noticed the clang pipeline did not go through, clang seems to be a bit more picky here. The latest commit should do it, looks a lot more reasonable to me too.
