`testCoupling` uses the ε as a tolerance for comparing points in
global coordinates.  So ε needs to scale with the grid.

This value of ε works for all tests except miexeddimscalingtest.cc
which already fails with the larger value.

a helpful error message (including the text of the exception's
`what()` output).

This addresses several compiler warnings from GCC 8 of the form:
